To My Mother
This song was originally written for a play-with-music, "Blame it on Your Mother", back in the early 2000s. I thought, at the time, that I was fictionalising my own experience to gift to a character who had more sense than me. But time passed, and as it happened, this is exactly how my relationship with my mother panned out! So yes—another autobiographical song.
I perform it unaccompanied because I don't have a white grand piano and a fantastic accompanist to work with. And my ukulele just doesn't cut the mustard for this particular song.
